Yes, this is ME and a ...CAT.
Someone snapped this photo awhile back and sent it to me after last week's column. Let me explain. I am a rescued dog, so I am compelled to rescue other abandoned animals. So, yes, this one is a mangy, meowing feline... and we call him "Little Kitty", which is what he was when he first arrived on our back porch. My mom and dad feed him on the porch and I play with him so he won't be alone in this world. But he is not MY cat, and he is NOT allowed inside. Of course my mom and dad took him to be neutured to ensure he doesn't create more homeless kittens (wouldn't THAT be awful!). On a more canine note, here is a photo of Bailey, one of my fans from Phoenix. Bailey loves Ali, her stuffed alligator!

LETTING THEM TAKE YOUR MONEY!
We have had several situations just this past month where a customer called us for an estimate to replace their failed a/c system. We learn they had another local a/c contractor come out to fix their system, only to be told it is either not repairable or so incredibly expensive to repair, they should just buy a new system. In each instance, we found the system repairable at a very reasonable rate, with several years of expected use still remaining. To read more about it on our blog, click here...

With a struggling economy, many contractors are desperate for cash flow. Couple that with techs who work on commission (the more they sell you the more they make), and you have a high probability you paid for parts you did not need, or worse, replaced an entire system unnecessarily. It is entirely up to you to shop wisely. Research the contractor before you hire them. Check them out with the Better Business Bureau and the Registrar of Contractors. I know we keep harping on this but we continue to get calls from homeowners who were truly mislead and over-sold. For just one example of a recently mislead homeowner, click here...

On another note; remember that the contractor's hourly labor rate is not the sole indicator for the lowest repair bill. Their labor rate may be lower, but, after they have charged you to replace a few parts that you didn't need, how much did you really save? And, let me end with one of our favorite quotes from Marshall,
"The sour taste of poor quality will outlast the sweet taste of low price....every time."
