Hello friends, BooBoo here. Yet another wonderful Fourth of July celebration, including great fireworks! No, I am not one of those dogs who hides in the bathtub during the fireworks or a thunderstorm, but take away my food dish and you will see panic of the worst kind! As many of you know, I recently had emergency surgery to remove HUGE stones from my bladder. I won't go into details so YOU don't have to hide in the bathtub, but let me just say I am feeling soooooooo good now that they are gone! My doctors and caregivers at Greenway Pet Clinic took great care of me and are still working with me to ensure my special diet keeps those stones from forming in the future. Of course I still enjoy a doggie bag when my mom and dad go to Jonathan's Cork for dinner (see Late Night Dining article in this newsletter...), but I did have to give up their wonderful mac-n-cheese. My mom said that stuff isn't for dogs anyway, but my dad used to sneak a noodle to me now and then!
Love,
BooBoo

When Shopping for College Dorm Essentials
Size DOES matter...
Living in the dorm is a great way to make friends and feel connected to the school. As you shop to supply that dorm room, remember: all clothes, pillows, quilts, towels, medicine, grooming aids, hair products, blankets, sheets, radio, computer, TV, shoes and mini-fridge have to fit into a space the size of a MINI Cooper (the size of a typical dorm room). Utilize under-the-bed storage options, over-the-door hangers and hooks, and be sure to buy products with the least amount of packaging. Highly condensed laundry soap, etc takes up much less room.
Oh, those shower floors... The most important shower accessory could be a pair of Crocs or flip-flops. What's living on those floors can stop an army!
Other MUST HAVES....
Car accessories. If your student will be taking her car with her, think about what she will need for the car: A gas card (credit card just for gas) and an AAA card (or something similar.) If she has car trouble or locks herself out, you won't be able to help if you are hundreds of miles away. A fan and space heater. Many dorm rooms are too hot or too cold. A fan comes in handy during the late fall months, and a small space heater (if it's allowed) can make a cold room more comfortable in the winter. Febreze! College kids are notoriously messy. They will leave dirty laundry and leftover snacks in their rooms until the very last minute. Febreze can be a lifesaver! A mini-fridge and microwave. (Again, check with the college's housing staff to make sure they are allowed). It isn't always convenient to run to the cafes, and having his own food and quick snacks available can make those late-night study sessions so much more fun. For additional MUST HAVES, click here...
And by all means, let your college student do their own laundry BEFORE they go off to college. It's much easier to learn the ins and outs of color-safe laundry practices while they are still near someone who actually knows HOW to do laundry! |
